R.D. Dunkin Lodge to be constructed at Camp Loud Thunder |
 |

The Camping Committee and the Executive Committee of the Illowa Council are excited to announce the plans to honor our Scouter friend, Mr. R. D. Dunkin. As you know R.D. was a life-long Scout and shared his vision to help young people grow to exceptional strengths with the right combination of leadership education, mentorship and the love of Scouting.
In R.D.’s honor the Council Camping Committee has completed a plan directed by R.D.’s will to construct a staff building at Loud Thunder Scout Reservation. This structure, the RD Dunkin Lodge, will primarily house youth staff during summer camp, but be available to all Scout Units the balance of the year. RD had a unique vision prescribed helping young people grow; the Council plans to use this facility as a training center for youth, adults and a retreat center for Scouts like the Order of the Arrow or to be a troop’s winter camping site.
The lodge will have accommodations for up to forty youth and adults, expanded bathrooms, showers, a small kitchen and laundry facility. The focal point of the lodge is the central fellowship hall designed to have the flexibility to be a respite for staff during summer camp or to be set-up for formal and informal uses like training sessions and meetings. This space will have a rustic ambience including a fireplace to encourage fellowship, a memorial area to honor Scouting and all the modern A/V capabilities completing RD’s vision.
While R.D.’s estate and family have contributed substantially, we are in need to raise an additional $100,000. It is our hope that supporters will help us complete the fundraising phase in the next few months to make R.D.’s vision a reality.
For more information, you may contact the Scout Service Center at (563) 388-7233.

Our Fall Conclave was a success again this year. 95 new Ordeal members were welcomed into our lodge, and 22 members of our Lodge earned their Brotherhood. | 2007 National Conservation and Leadership Summit (NCLS) |
 |
In the Summer of 2007, over 2,500 Arrowmen from every lodge will join together for the first ever National Conservation and Leadership Summit (NCLS). The NCLS will be the first Summit-type event held since the National Leadership Summit of 1999 at Colorado State University. The summit will be July 28 to August 1, 2007 on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. The cost will be $295 if full payment is postmarked before May 31, 2007 and will be $350 if paid after. The Summit has been designed for the Key 3 of each Lodge as well as those that are interested in serving in staffing roles or as delegation leaders for the ArrowCorps5 project that will take place in 2008. At the NCLS, the third Strategic Plan (2008-2012): When Tradition Meets Tomorrow, which has been designed by the National Order of the Arrow Committee, will be unveiled to those in attendance. During the course of this event, Lodge leaders will have the opportunity to participate in workshops that will assist in Lodges implementation of the Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan has been designed to assist lodges in creating a more powerful link between the local council and lodge. Much of the ideology revolving the new strategic plan will build on the predecessor plan, 2003-2007: A Legacy of Servant Leadership. All Lodge Key 3s and other future leaders of lodges should plan on attending as the Summit will be the foundation for the next 5 years of the Order of the Arrow. Not only will there be plenty of information available but it will also provide a forum for Lodges to exchange ideas throughout the event. Join the Order of the Arrow and strengthen the ties of Brotherhood by participating in the 2007 National Conservation and Leadership Summit. See you in Indiana! The Council Contingent Reservation Form and Transmittal will be available on the NCLS portal at www.oa-bsa.org.
If you would like more information on NCLS please contact Drew Mathias

| National Order of the Arrow Conference |
 |
Youth members of the Konepaka Ketiwa Lodge await the Arena Show at Hilton Auditorium in Ames,Iowa | | | | | | | | 6504 Arrowmen from across the nation attended the 2004 NOAC including 15 youth and 3 adult advisors from Illowa Council. In addition another 8 members of our council provided staff services. This year the National Conference for the Honor Camping Society was held at Iowa State University in Ames with the theme "Chosen to Serve, Inpired to Lead". The conference program is put on entirely by the youth leaders and emphasized training in servant leadership, fellowship, and fun. Our contingent was very active in the activities that took place there. Ranging from participating in basketball, to a patch euchre tournament. The group also won high honors for a historcal display. The Conference also put on some spectacular shows, all were in awe during and after the shows. Over all it was a week of fellowship and fun so we hope to see you at the next NOAC in Michigan. |
